The NCIS star has requested the court award him and Carrie joint physical and legal custody of their minor children, Caitlyn, 16, and River, 13, following Carrie’s initial petition to have sole physical and joint legal custody.

Sean has also requested that they both pay their attorney fees, as opposed to Carrie’s petition which asked for the actor to cover her fees.

On April 18, PEOPLE confirmed that the couple was divorcing after 18 years of marriage. In her original filing, Carrie cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their separation. She listed the pair’s official date of separation as March 18, 2024.

After meeting in 2004 at a Halloween party, the couple dated for a year before they exchanged vows in November 2005. The pair went on to welcome their daughter, Caitlyn, in 2007 and their son, River, in 2010.

News of their divorce comes five months after they celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary in November 2023.

In a post shared on Instagram at the time, Carrie celebrated their relationship milestone with a series of photos that featured the duo throughout the years. From graduations to their wedding day and beyond, the pair were pictured smiling and blowing kisses.

“18 years of marriage and you still open the car door and pull out my chair. It’s true when they say, ‘It’s the little things that matter the most,'” she began in the caption.

Carrie went on the joke that she “always get to pick what we watch” and “always get to be first,” she added, “After some consideration, I always get to be right, well in my mind anyway. 😜.”

“I love us @therealseanhmurray. I’m so glad I went to that Halloween Party. 🧡,” she concluded, noting that the first photo in the carousel was the “earliest photo I can find of us” at her 2004 grad school graduation.

On Monday, April 15, Sean celebrated the NCIS franchise reaching its 1,000th episode in a conversation with PEOPLE. Despite being the original NCIS show’s longest running cast member, the actor revealed that he wasn’t quite sure where his journey with the franchise would lead.

“I think we learned this with things that have happened on the show over the years… No one is quite safe,” he explained. “Obviously, being here 21 years, [I] have enjoyed, immensely, being a part of this show and continue to be incredibly grateful to be a part of this show, but you never know what’s going to happen.”
