On Instagram, guest star Shelby Flannery shared an image from the set of the 1000th episode of NCIS. She noted her excitement about being involved with the series, and the photo revealed a look at her on the set with NCIS cast members. Standing among them is Joe Spano, confirming that he will return for the special episode as Tobias Fornell. Tobias has been a recurring character on NCIS since its first season, though the character resigned from the FBI to work as a P.I. in 2017. Spano last appeared on the show in 2022.

Also revealing that she’ll be playing a villain in the episode, Shelby Flannery’s Instagram post stated, “Prettttty pleased to be a part of the 1,000th (?!!) episode of NCIS with this knockout cast. Theys sexy, theys sweet AND theys funny. Watch out for the episode come April 15th (lucky for you I’m the baddie).”

Will Gibbs Also Return For Episode 1000?

Many fans will likely be wondering if another special appearance is in store for the 1000th episode of NCIS. While Mark Harmon is still involved with the franchise behind the scenes, he no longer stars on NCIS after Gibbs was written out as a main character in Season 19. Some fans expected him to make a special appearance for the episode that served as a tribute to Ducky following David McCallum’s passing, and while Michael Weatherly showed up as Tony DiNozzo, there was no Gibbs. It was later explained that producers don’t want to bring back Gibbs for a brief cameo, suggesting his return would have to be for something much bigger.

“In a perfect world, what we first imagined was what the Marvel Cinematic Universe did when Tony Stark died…. Our original thought was, ‘Can we get everybody?'” Co-showrunner and executive producer Steven D. Binder said told TVLine about the episode. “We gave a lot of thought to who Ducky is connected to most, which on one level would be Gibbs. But it was Jimmy who was there, so it was [about] who Jimmy would connect with, and also bring some levity… and that was Michael Weatherly.”

On the potentiality of Gibbs coming back in the future, Binder teased, “Of course the door is always open. When we bring him back, we’re not going to bring him back for two minutes. It’s got to be something special.”
