General Hospital Spoilers: Why Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) Is Such A Popular Character

There is no denying the powerful presence of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) on ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers and her extremely loud fan base.

Everyone knows that Laura Wright is an extremely talented actress, and her character has evolved from being very selfish and destructive to becoming almost like a heroine.

Why Carly is Such a Popular Character

Wright’s character is very prominent, and some viewers have complained that the show seems to center around her.

But Carly, the vixen beloved by ‘General Hospital’ viewers, has evolved from being the hated character to someone who is incredibly relatable and complex.

In her role as Carly from 1996 to 2001, Sarah Joy Brown traveled to Port Charles with the intention of dissolving her mother Bobbie Spencer’s (Jacklyn Zeman) union with Tony Jones (Brad Maule).

She was determined to exact revenge on her mother for having given her up at birth. To the dismay of her fans, she was successful.

Back then, it was easy to detest Carly. She was the town pariah.

Once Tamara Braun (2001 to 2005) stepped into the role, she brought a layer of refreshing vulnerability to Carly, yet the character remained a force to be reckoned with.

Jennifer Bransford briefly played Carly (2005), but fans never took a shine to her portrayal.

Laura Wright’s Version of Carly

Next up was Laura Wright. From 2005 to the present, she embraced the role of Carly on General Hospital. No other actress could play the part with the strength and maturity that Laura does.

To her children, Carly is a strong mother bear who would sacrifice anything for them. The fact that Carly loves fiercely is one of her best qualities.

Her relationships with her ex-husband, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), and her ride-or-die friendship with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) are the two best examples of this.

Not only has Carly changed from being a friend to not knowing any women (well, maybe Sonny’s sister Courtney), but she has also developed some of the most intriguing and unexpected connections on the program.

Her recent scenes with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) prove that the character has matured and become capable of change for the better.

Carly’s complicated relationship with Sonny is one of the major hot topics among GH fans. Some fans love Carly and Sonny together, while others enjoy the pairing of Sonny with Nina (Cynthia Watros).

New Love and Life for Carly

Now that they’re on GH, Carly and Drew (Cameron Mathison) are a breath of new air and work really well together.

As long as the GH writers let Carly and Drew stay together, it doesn’t hurt to appreciate them for the genuinely endearing and passionate couple they are, even while fans are still demanding a reconciliation between Sonny and Carly.

Additionally, Drew deserves praise for bringing to light a side of Carly that is not typically seen to the public—a softer, more playful side.

Sonny has Carly’s undying loyalty, therefore when the chance arose for her to turn against him for her own benefit, Carly vehemently rejected the notion.

To protect herself, Carly would never turn Sonny over to the authorities.

Another rootable trait of Carly is her independence.

She does not take handouts and even sleeps in jail to keep Sonny from bailing her out when she and Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) were arrested at the High Sider.

Carly has often declared that she will regain all of her lost possessions. She is undoubtedly very determined.

There’s no persuading a woman out of anything once she makes up her mind about it.

Astute as a whip, Carly paid a dollar for Kelly’s with the intention of reimburseing her mother Bobbie for the full market value.

Carly is committed to starting over and establishing her reputation.

As expected, Carly changed her name from Corinthos to Spencer for a specific purpose. She was determined to work hard and show everyone that life went on after Sonny.
